Arundel Mayor's Sunday civic service returns this weekend

The ‘extremely popular’ event is hosted by councillor James Stewart, mayor of Arundel.

The service will begin with a procession of the mayor, town clerk and councillors from Arundel Town Hall to St Nicholas Church, led by a band.

On arrival at St Nicholas Church, the councillors will be met by scout and guiding groups who will form a guard of honour at the entrance.

Schools have banded together to form a joint choir for the occasion and sing to the congregation as the service begins at 2pm.

This service this year will be led by the Rt. Rev. David Farrer.

St Nicholas Church choir will sing at the service in front of a church full of civic dignitaries, residents and family and friends of the young people taking part.

After the service, the councillors and visiting dignitaries will go on a return procession back to the town hall, where they will receive a march past and salute from the scouts and the guides.

A reception at the town hall will conclude the event.

Councillor James Stewart, mayor of Arundel, said: “The mayor’s Sunday civic service is a long-cherished and extremely popular Arundel tradition.

“It offers a chance to celebrate our community of all generations.
