The BBC Big Dance Class event, on Adur Recreation Ground, was a wash-out after the heavens opened on Saturday, July 22. Across the country, almost 9,000 people danced at the same time to enter the Guinness Book of World Records, but conditions in Adur made taking part impossible. The event was planned with the Adur East Lions Club, which was hosting a car boot sale at the recreation ground, guaranteeing a potentially high turn-out. Malcolm Turner, from the Lions Club, said: "It was a bit of a disaster for the dance people. It was a shame. It would have been quite successful." Dance demonstrations were able to go ahead despite the rain, but joining in the record attempt was impossible owing to the conditions.
